
The London Wine Competition has once again highlighted the producers, regions and styles shaping the global wine scene. The 2026 results celebrate wines that combine quality, value and presentation, recognising bottles that are not only expertly made but also commercially compelling.
At the top of the list is the 2026 Wine of the Year, Ernest Pinot Noir by Hasher Family Wines from South Africa. Scoring an outstanding 99 points, this 2024 vintage shows the growing strength of South African Pinot Noir on the international stage. Entered in the still wine category, it is made from Pinot Noir, also known as Spätburgunder, Blauburgunder or Pinot Nero.
The award for Best Wine by Package went to Little Owl by Artisan Group of Brands from Greece. This 2025 Assyrtiko scored 97 points and stood out for the strength of its overall presentation. As Assyrtiko continues to gain global recognition, Little Owl shows how Greek wines can combine distinctive regional character with strong shelf appeal.
Best Wine by Value was awarded to Eikendal Charisma by Eikendal Vineyards (Pty) Ltd. from South Africa. The 2023 vintage scored 96 points and is a blend of Shiraz, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese. This award recognises a wine that delivers impressive quality at a compelling price point, making it particularly attractive for both trade buyers and consumers.
Best Wine by Quality went to Grand Duc Chardonnay by GlenWood Vineyards Pty Ltd, also from South Africa. This 2023 Chardonnay scored 99 points, placing it among the very best wines in the competition. Its recognition underlines South Africa’s continued excellence in producing premium still wines with international appeal.
The 2026 London Wine Competition results show a particularly strong performance from South Africa, with three of the four headline awards going to South African producers. Greece also made its mark with Little Owl, proving that distinctive varietals such as Assyrtiko are earning well-deserved attention on the world stage.
