If you have been following my recent tasting adventures, you will know that I have tasted over 170 wines from the Lidl tastings over the past year. To make it easier for you to find the best bottles, I have put together this bi-annual summary, updated every June and December, highlighting my picks.

To help you easily navigate the wine aisles on your next shopping trip, I have grouped all of my top recommendations by country, complete with vintages, prices and a quick tasting note for each.

Australia

Jailbird Australian Blend 2021 £5.99 This leathery, smoky Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz blend avoids excessive sweetness and offers excellent value for money.

  • Deluxe Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 £6.99 A full-bodied, classic cassis-led Cabernet Sauvignon with a minty lift and a long, cedary finish.
  • Deluxe Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2025 £6.99 Deep ruby and firm, this fresher vintage is bursting with prominent notes of blackcurrant, mint, eucalypt, and cedar.
  • Deluxe Australian Merlot 2025 £8.49 An unconventional and divisive style offering aromas of spice and smoke followed by distinctive menthol and cherry sweet flavours.

Austria

  • Müller Grüner Veltliner Löss & Schotter 2024 £8.99 An off-dry Austrian white featuring pear drops and citrus that beautifully transition into apricot on the palate.

France

  • Confidence de Gascogne Colombard – Sauvignon 2024 £7.49 A rounded French white bursting with tropical, slightly sweet flavours akin to New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs.
  • Exquise Rosé Prestige 2025 £7.99 This very pale Pays d’Oc rosé offers an impressive depth of red fruit and citrus flavours with a refreshing off-dry finish.
  • Château Plagnac Médoc 2022 £8.99 A lovely Médoc offering a delightful mix of floral fruitiness and oaked character with beautifully integrated tannins.
  • Monalie Côtes de Provence 2024 £9.99 A pale salmon rosé delivering delicate red fruit and citrus notes with just a whisper of sweetness.
  • Breath of Paradise Rosé 2025 £10.99 An extremely aromatic Provence rosé boasting high acidity, red fruit flavours, and a clean, refreshing dry finish.
  • Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2023 £13.99 A dry yet fruity Bordeaux blend that gently builds into a rich black fruit character before settling with medium, unobtrusive tannins.

Germany

  • Riesling Piesporter Michelsberg 2025 £4.99 An off-dry, lower-alcohol Mosel Riesling perfectly balancing fresh citrus and green fruit flavours.

Greece

  • Assyrtiko 2024 £7.99 An atypical Greek white leaning playfully into unexpected ripe banana, pineapple, and strawberry bubblegum notes.

Hungary

Italy

  • Barbera d’Asti Superiore 2020 £6.99 An easy-drinking, medium-bodied red providing juicy red fruit alongside classic cherry and plum aromas.
  • Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie 2023 £7.49 A remarkably round and full-bodied Pinot Grigio led by fresh apple and subtle almond notes.
  • Duca di Sasseta Viognier Terre Siciliane 2024 £7.49 This aromatic Sicilian white offers appealing flavours of pear, peach, and apricot with a wonderfully supportive mouthfeel.
  • Gavi DOCG 2024 £7.99 A dry white with floral, subtle almond, and musky notes alongside a delicate spiciness and lingering aftertaste.
  • Pecorino Terre Abruzzesi 2024 £7.99 An organic white with zesty citrus and herbal tones, featuring an unusually appealing and rounded texture.
  • Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2020 £16.99 A rich, concentrated red with luxurious dried fruit flavours, velvety texture, and a long, warming finish.

Moldova

  • Sálcuta Fetească Neagră Winemaker’s Way NV £8.49 A bold red leaning heavily into deep blackcurrant and plum flavours with virtually no tannins.

Portugal

  • Almocreve 2022 | £6.99 A slightly off-dry red featuring ripe dark fruit, warm spice, and a gentle oaky caramel finish.
  • Almocreve Alentejano Reserva 2022 £7.99 A grounded, rustic red showcasing slightly savoury, earthy, and woody dark fruit flavours.

Spain

  • Cepa Lebrel Crianza 2022 £5.79 An exceptionally priced Crianza offering a beautifully balanced mix of red fruit, vanilla, and gentle oak spice.
  • 5 Oros Rioja Crianza 2020 £7.99 An oak-heavy, medium-bodied Rioja blend bursting with intense red cherry, strawberry, and vanilla aromas.
  • Hacienda Uvanis Navarra 2023 £8.99 A light to medium-bodied old vine Garnacha packed with satisfying earthy, floral, and fruity flavours.

Ukraine

  • Bolgrad Pinot Grigio 2024 £8.49 A remarkably flavourful and dry Ukrainian white offering clean orchard fruit and excellent length.
