Cuatro Rayas Four Lines Verdejo is a wine I picked out in recent tastings at Asda and Morrisons, and I liked it enough that I had to go back to it. “Four Lines” is the English-market rendering of Cuatro Rayas, which refers to the Pago de las Cuatro Rayas, a vineyard area.
This is the 2025 vintage, made from 100% Verdejo. It comes from a cooperative winery based in La Seca, Valladolid, right in the heart of Spain’s Rueda Verdejo country. The bottle looks great too, with blue glass designed to stand out on the shelf while also helping protect the wine against light strike. It is vegan, and sits at 12.5% ABV.
Give it 30 minutes out of the fridge rather than pouring it straight from cold, then it opens up nicely. You get lemon, fennel, cut grass and a little tropical lift. The colour is pale lemon. In the mouth it is all zesty citrus, herbal fennel character and plenty of flavour, with a feel that comes across a touch sweeter than it really is. It is dry, light to medium in body, with medium to high acidity, with a fresh, herbal, salty finish. Ideal with fish dishes.
It is available from multiple retailers and I have seen it at Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s. It is usually around £10, which feels great for this quality, but supermarket competition can make it a fantastic buy as I have sometimes seen it as low as £5.81 on a double promotion.
