Co-op Irresistible 30° Casablanca Valley Pinot Noir

Posted by

I tasted this Pinot Noir as part of my awards25 series and it’s already made a strong impression, with a Gold at the IWC and a Bronze at the IWSC. It also previously won a Silver in the Pinot Noir Masters.

The name 30° refers to its Chilean roots, highlighting the 30 degrees south latitude where the Casablanca Valley is located, produced by Viña Indómita.

Viña Indómita is a prominent Chilean winery situated in a region known for its cool-climate wines and proximity to the Pacific Ocean. The estate vineyards benefit from coastal breezes and morning fog, which help to preserve acidity and develop complex flavours in the grapes. Committed to sustainable practices, the winery also participates in Fairtrade initiatives, supporting ethical production and local communities.

This is the 2023 vintage at 13% ABV. There’s a lovely ripe cherry scent with something slightly earthy, almost mushroom-like and a hint of smokiness. The flavours are packed with red fruit, especially strawberry and raspberry, balanced by a savoury streak that adds real interest. Although the label says it’s light-bodied, I’d say it’s starting to lean towards medium.

At £9.65 from the Co-op, it offers excellent value. The awards make sense as this is a really well-made wine that’s full of flavour and personality.
