W/O Nero d’Avola Rosato is made around the idea of a wine made without (W/O) compromise, with sustainability placed front and centre. It comes from Sicilian winemaker Dino Taschetta and is bottled in 100% recycled ‘wild’ glass with no neck foil. The Nero d’Avola grapes are organic, grown in Marsala and Salemi, and the wine sits at 11.5%. It also has a high 4.1 rating on Vivino.
In colour, it is light gold and much paler once poured into the glass. There is raspberry and citrus on the aroma, and it is strikingly expressive even when served cold. The fruit is full-on, with intense peach and cherry, edging towards almond. As it warms, it becomes rounder in the mouth and feeling slightly sweeter. It is more intense than a Provence rosé, with a more weight and personality. I liked it a lot, but my wife particularly loved this one because of that almond character.
This was the 2025 vintage. I should say I also tried the 2024 vintage at the same time, and that was pretty much devoid of character. A useful tip is to buy this wine and drink it, rather than store it. In fact, that goes for almost all rosé. Rosé is made to be enjoyed young, and the clear glass does it no favours either, thanks to the affect of light strike.
It is available from Laithwaites for £14.99, or £11.99 when mixed as part of a case of 12.
