Mount Rozier Chenin Blanc Reserve

Posted by

Mount Rozier Chenin Blanc Reserve is a white wine from the foothills of the Hottentot Mountains, produced by the Mount Rozier winery in South Africa’s Western Cape wine region. The estate has a rich heritage, founded at the turn of the 19th century by Annie Rozier, a local flower merchant known for gathering wildflowers in the Schapenberg hills around her family’s homestead. She gained a reputation for making natural remedies and medicines, becoming a beloved figure in the local community.

Today, the Mount Rozier Estate remains committed to preserving its natural surroundings, with 30 hectares of land designated for the conservation of indigenous flora and fauna. This ethos of sustainability and ethical production runs through the entire Reserve range.

The 2024 vintage of the Chenin Blanc Reserve is a versatile and refreshingly characterful wine at just 11% ABV. Unusually, it doesn’t demand the usual twenty-minute warming period from the fridge that most white wines benefit from. Straight from the cold, it reveals crisp pear aromas and a zesty citrus taste, making it incredibly refreshing.

However, given time to warm slightly, it evolves into something with more mouthfeel and complexity, retaining its citrus brightness while developing a richer pear profile, more ideal for pairing with food. In essence, it’s like having two wines in one bottle.

Available exclusively at Sainsbury’s for £7.50 and sometimes part of their ‘Buy 6 or more’ promotion with Nectar for just £5.62, it represents exceptional value.
