This wine, from Domaine Bousquet pays tribute to the winemaker’s French roots. The Bousquet family comes from the Languedoc, where it owned Domaine Lalande, a winery and vineyards based in Pennautier. The property was sold to fund the purchase of the family’s Argentine estate in the 1990s.
Made from 100% Cabernet Franc with no oak influence, the wine is certified organic. The vineyards were planted on untouched land from 1997 onwards and have been certified organic from the very beginning. The 172-hectare property sits in Gualtallary, in Mendoza’s Uco Valley, at a dizzying altitude of 1,219 metres, or 4,000 feet.
The front label features a colourful circular arrangement of plants, flowers, birds and other natural motifs, perfectly reflecting the range’s focus on biodiversity and organic growing. The latest release now uses lighter glass, with the bottle weighing 400g. This 2025 vintage received 95 points, a Gold medal and a Best Value distinction at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards. Alcohol is 13.5%.
Deep ruby-purple in colour, it opens with an aroma of blackcurrant, roasted pepper and perhaps freshly cut grass. Ripe dark fruit follows, with a dry style, medium body, medium tannins and medium acidity. The finish is medium to long with a marked cassis flavour. Give it a little air and a herbal aroma becomes pronounced, while the wine also feels fuller in the mouth. There is lovely balance here for the price.
Available from Waitrose for £12.
