Château des Sarrins Rosé Grande Cuvée, 2025 vintage, has just arrived in the UK, and I have been amongst the first to taste it. This is a Provence wine from the Saint-Antonin-du-Var region, with the famous Paillard Champagne family having acquired the domaine in 1995. It has been certified Organic Agriculture since 2011.
The blend is Grenache 40%, Cinsault 20%, Mourvèdre 20%, Syrah 10% and Rolle 10%. It uses first pressing only, and the “Cuvée” in the name points to that choice, with only the purest juice drawn from the initial press of the grapes. It sits at 12.8% ABV.
In the glass it is pale salmon in colour. It opens with strawberry, redcurrant, watermelon and citrus zest aromas, with a gentle herbal edge running through it. The taste is dry and lively, full of red-berry fruit, crisp acidity and a fuller mouthfeel than most Provence rosé. Sweetness is dry and the finish is fresh, fruity, clean and mouth-filling.
Give it a little air, and let it warm just a touch, and it becomes more saline, more poised, even more serious. You can really sense the Rolle grape here, also known as Vermentino, a grape often used in premium rosé, bringing that rounded mouthfeel and extra depth.
Available from Wanderlust at £25 for a standard bottle, or £49 for a magnum.
