The Best Gran Reserva Pinot Noir

I picked this one out at the last Morrisons press tasting and knew I had to take a deeper look. It comes from Ventisquero Wine Estates, named Wine Enthusiast New World Winery of the Year 2024, and one of the founding wineries behind Chile’s sustainability movement. Award-winning winemaker Felipe Tosso is at the helm.

Made from 100% Pinot Noir, it is partly matured in French oak for added depth. It is 13% ABV and from the 2024 vintage.

In the glass, it is pale to medium ruby in colour. The aromas are intense, with red cherry, strawberry, rose and coastal herbs. It is silky and full of red fruit, with cool-climate freshness, gentle spice and a lovely savoury character. It is dry, light to medium-bodied, with low to medium tannins and medium acidity. The finish brings a distinct savoury bacon quality.

I found it so good with savoury food, in my case, a mild Mexican chilli. This is a special wine if, like me, you enjoy wines with a savoury style. I bought it for £12, with 25% off as part of a mix-six promotion, bringing it down to £9.
