Mucho Mas Sparkling

Posted by

My wife picked up Mucho Mas Sparkling when it was on offer, demonstrating her eye for the unusual and unique. This intriguing sparkling wine, usually found on the Prosecco shelf, stands out by being Spanish rather than Italian and isn’t Cava. The Mucho Mas brand, created around 2017 by Félix Solís, one of the world’s largest wine companies, is positioned in the sub-£7 price bracket in the UK market, making it an affordable choice.

Made by winemaker Carlos Villarraso, Mucho Mas Sparkling is a blend of Chardonnay and Viura, the latter typically found in White Rioja. This wine features a plain contemporary bottle label, a naked cork and 12% ABV. The Chardonnay component is fermented in new French and American oak barrels and after the second fermentation, the wine remains on its lees for between six and twelve weeks, adding depth to its flavour profile.

In 2023, Mucho Mas Sparkling won the Grand Gold at Vinespaña and received Silver medals at both the Concurso Mundial de Bruselas and the AWC Vienna International Wine Challenge. The latest 2023 vintage has a high 4.0 score on Vivino

Labelled Extra Dry, Mucho Mas Sparkling offers a slightly sweet experience with a great strong aroma of pear that follows through into the taste. Despite the oak barrel fermentation, the oak is not noticeable in the flavour, while the lees contribute more depth to the overall profile.

With an RRP of £7 to £8, it can often be found for as little as £6 on a 25% off offer at supermarkets like Morrisons and Tesco. Mucho Mas Sparkling is perfect for those seeking a great, economical, and refreshing sparkling wine that offers something a bit different from the usual Cava or Prosecco.
