Lidl Autumn Press Tasting

Posted by

At the start of October 2025 I attended the Lidl Autumn Press tasting in London, where 65 wines were shown that will form part of the October, November and December Wine Tours, along with a handful of new and existing wines from the core range.

Lidl’s Wine Tours typically run for around two months, giving customers only a limited window to purchase these bottles while stocks last. Many of the most popular selections sell out quickly, which is part of the strategy to keep the offer lively and ever-changing. The rotation encourages shoppers to return regularly in search of new discoveries, while also allowing Lidl to test preferences, with some wines potentially making their way into the permanent range if they prove especially popular.

Wines that stood out for me:

Duca di Sasseta Viognier Terre Siciliane 2024 12% £7.49
From Sicily, this aromatic wine has flavours of pear, peach and apricot, supported by an appealing mouthfeel and good length. It features in the October Wine Tour and, unusually, will also return in later tours.

Confidence de Gascogne Colombard – Sauvignon 2024 11% £7.49
A French white with Sauvignon-like intensity more in line with New Zealand styles, this has tropical flavours with a slightly sweet edge. It is long and full, with a rounded character rather than a sharp freshness. Part of the November Wine Tour.

Müller Grüner Veltliner Löss & Schotter 2024 12.5% £8.99
An Austrian Grüner Veltliner with a hint of pear drops alongside citrus, moving into apricot on the taste. Although the bottle states dry, it comes across as just a touch sweet. Available in the January Wine Tour.

Gavi DOCG 2024 12% £7.99
Made from Cortese grapes, this dry white shows floral and very slightly almond and perhaps musky notes with a delicate spiciness. There is a good texture on the tongue, apple flavour and both good length and lingering after taste. Part of the core range.

Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2023 14% £13.99
A Bordeaux blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc with a great black fruit character. This is dry yet fruity, with a journey that begins gently before building into rich fruit and then settling with medium, unobtrusive tannins. From the core range.

Jailbird Australian Blend 2021 13.5% £5.99
From the Limestone Coast, this Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend also includes Shiraz. Many similar ‘criminal’ wines lean heavily towards sweetness, but this one avoids that, making it the better option if, like me, you don’t like sweet red wines. There is a slightly brown hue with leathery, smoky oak notes and underlying fruit. Excellent value for money, though the browning and the vintage might suggest Lidl secured it at this very low price towards the end of its shelf life. Worth buying and drinking now rather than storing. Core range.

Hacienda Uvanis Navarra 2023 14% £8.99
An old vine Garnacha from Navarra in Spain. I have previously reviewed and re-purchased this in previous years. It is light to medium-bodied with a very pale colour, floral character and satisfying earthy, herby, very fruity flavours. Returning as part of the November Wine Tour.

Château Plagnac Médoc 2022 13.5% £8.99
A Médoc wine with a lovely mix of floral, fruitiness and oaked character. The tannins are present but not intrusive. Offers excellent value. Available in the October Wine Tour.

Overall, this was a strong line-up of value wines. I was pleased to see Hacienda Uvanis Navarra back, as it remains one of my favourites from Lidl. One thing I would say is to keep an eye out, as this year the wines have sometimes appeared much earlier and have not always conformed to the planned tours. Also, prices are estimated and subject to change.
