La Belle Angèle Rosé

Posted by

La Belle Angèle Rosé takes its name from a figure of the early 20th century, a muse of the French Impressionists whose charm and elegance inspired many. Produced by La Belle Angèle Wines in Nuits-Saint-Georges, France, the bottle itself reflects a refined aesthetic and the producer’s website is very well presented – a rare case where I link as it’s very well done.

This 2024 vintage, 12% ABV, blends Cinsault and Grenache grapes, sourced from the Gers and the Languedoc. The Cinsault brings a sense of freshness, while the Grenache adds richness and a deeper concentration.

In the glass, it appears a pale gold rather than the usual pink. There’s a strong aroma of strawberry, which carries through very clearly in the flavour. My wife thought the scent was more reminiscent of pink roses. It feels rounded and smooth in the mouth, with generous flavour and an impressive length. It’s the kind of wine that invites another glass before you’ve even finished the first, very moreish.

More robust and expressive than most Provence-style rosés, it offers far better flavour for the price. Available from Majestic at £8.50 when buying six or more, it’s a great value choice that punches above its weight.
