Vinha Do Fava Touriga Nacional

Posted by

Casa Ermelinda Freitas is a 5th generation Portuguese winery dating back to 1920 and is one of the biggest Portuguese producers. This wine has a great depth of flavour, complemented by robust tannins, alongside a smooth, velvety feel. Aromas of spiced bramble, cassis, plum and blackcurrant.

Touriga Nacional is one of the top grape varieties native to Portugal, renowned for its rich, concentrated flavours and higher tannin content. This grape variety plays a crucial role in the production of high-quality Douro table wines and fortified Port wines. Though traditionally used mainly in blending, in recent decades there’s been a surge of interest in single-varietal Touriga Nacional wines.

This wine is 4.0 out of 5 on Vivino.

I think Portuguese wines have offered, and still offer, great value. They are under-appreciated and hence less popular so you get a better wine for your money. This one is around £9 from Laithwaites/Sunday Times Wine Club.
