Los Tontos Sabios

Posted by

Los Tontos Sabios is a quirky and intriguing red ‘field blend’ crafted from organic grapes. This wine, from the La Mancha region of Spain, is a harmonious mix of native Spanish grape varieties, all grown in the same field and fermented together. The specific grapes are not disclosed, which adds an element of mystery to this 2021 vintage with a 13.5% ABV.

Upon first tasting, I found it challenging to categorise, but soon realised the key is to appreciate it for what it is. It is ruby/purplish in colour and is
light to medium bodied. It has a strong cherry flavour, underpinned by a subtle hint of toffee/caramel and spice. Its fruitiness is dominant, vibrant, yet well-balanced. It has a pleasant rather than sour finish.

Initially, I wasn’t sure due to unfamiliarity and the implicit lack of any typicity. However, after sampling it over three days, it greatly grew on me, and I will definitely buy it again.

I discovered this one at Waitrose, with a recommended retail price of £8.99, occasionally discounted to £7.99. I was fortunate to purchase it for £6.74 during a 25% off promotion, which made it even more attractive. Perfect for those seeking something a little different and memorable.
